Scott is a results-oriented energy professional with extensive experience and expertise in electric utility resource planning, power markets, economic analysis, stakeholder engagement and regulatory processes. Most recently, he has advised clients in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia on investment opportunities, the energy transition, various generation technologies including renewables and energy storage, risk management and carbon reduction strategies. He has demonstrated success leading cross functional teams in the development and execution of formal Integrated Resource Plans (IRP) and stakeholder engagement processes. Scott has been recognized for sound economic and strategic analysis that goes beyond traditional resource planning models. He finds the opportunities that exist at the intersection of his skills and experience with the global energy transition exciting and rewarding.
He began his 27-year career in the energy industry structuring long term power transactions at Southern Company and PG&E. At both companies, he worked at the nexus of the trading floor, origination, asset development team and risk management to evaluate and help monetize generation assets.
Scott then moved to Progress Energy where he worked and then led the wholesale structuring group that sold power to other companies, municipalities and cooperatives. There he worked with counter parties to structure power supply transactions that added value for the counter party and the utility. He then assumed a role on the grant time that ultimately won a $200 MM Smart Grid grant and was instrumental in the successful bid as well as leading the team that managed the requirements of the DOE grant.
After the merger between Progress Energy and Duke Energy, Scott took a role in the generation resource planning organization and soon led the resource planning efforts for Duke Energy’s Midwest utilities. There he oversaw a team that developed the long-term resource plans for those utilities, supported numerous other regulatory filings and testified before state utility commissions in support of those filings. He also has extensive experience leading stakeholder engagement processes that ran in parallel with several Integrated Resource Plans.
In addition to his formal resource planning role, Scott was instrumental is his work that resulted in a $2 billion investment by the Singapore Sovereign Wealth Fund in Duke Energy Indiana.
